Electrically switchable cylindrical Fresnel lens based on holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals using a Michelson interferometer
Fabricating an electrically switchable cylindrical Fresnel lens based on holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (H-PDLC) using a Michelson interferometer is reported. Simplicity of the method and possibility of fabricating different focal length lenses in a single set up are among the advantages of the method. It is demonstrated that the Fresnel structured zone plate acts as a cylindrica...
متن کاملStretchable liquid-crystal blue-phase gels.
Liquid-crystalline polymers are materials of considerable scientific interest and technological value. An important subset of these materials exhibit rubber-like elasticity, combining the optical properties of liquid crystals with the mechanical properties of rubber. Moreover, they exhibit behaviour not seen in either type of material independently, and many of their properties depend crucially...
متن کاملDiluter Effects on Large Dielectric Anisotropy Blue Phase Liquid Crystals
We have investigated diluter effects on the Debye relaxation frequency, and electro-optics of polymer-stabilized blue phase liquid crystals (BPLC). The relaxation frequency can be increased by adding a small amount of diluters, which benefits high frequency operation of BPLC. Some diluters significantly decrease the BPLC response time while maintaining similar Kerr constant. Author
متن کاملLiquid Crystal Materials and Liquid Crystal Displays
Since the early 1970s, three major prerequisites have brought the success of the liquid crystal display (LCD) technology to its key role of today. Namely, the discovery of electro-optical field-effects on which the displays are based, the successful search for liquid crystals (LCs) with material properties that meet the complex requirements of electro-optical effects and render the effects appl...
متن کاملElectro-Mechanical Response of Nematic Elastomers: an Introduction
We review in these lecture notes some of our recent work on modelling the response of nematic elastomers to applied mechanical loads and/or to electric fields, both in the static and in the dynamic regime. Our aim is to compare theoretical results based on mathematical analysis and on numerical simulations with the available experimental evidence, in order to examine critically the various rece...
